Eye Stye: Causes & Home Remedies

Eye Stye: Causes & Home Remedies

Eye StyeEye stye is basically a skin disorder. It is a problematic condition that refers to the development of a red bump inside or under the eyelid. In some cases, this soft red bump is even situated at the base of an eyelash.
Medically, this skin disorder is known by the name Hordeolum.

Main Causes of an Eye Stye

Human eyelids have certain oil glands inside them. These oil glands are medically known by the name meibomian glands. An acute infection of meibomian glands can result in clogging, thereby causing the skin disorder known as Hordeolum or eye stye. Clogging of oil glands is the most common cause of this skin disorder.
At the base of your eyelashes, eye stye condition may develop if hair follicle causes infection. This infection also aggravates the condition very quickly. A large number of eye stye cases are a result of Staphylococcus aureus.
As the infection grows, the condition tends to get more complicated. Eyelids may suffer from inflammation at this stage. That is the time when stye begins to develop in the area. It is also known as blepharitis.

Types of Eye Styes

External Hordeolum – It refers to the stye condition that develops at the base of eyelashes. External Hordeolum is mainly around a hair follicle of the eyelids.
Internal Hordeolum – It refers to the stye condition that develops as a result of blocked oil glands in the eyelid.

Eye Stye – Home Remedies

As mentioned above, an eye stye will usually take care of itself. Sooner or later, it will rupture and give you an immediate relief from painful symptoms if any at all. As far as self-care of eye stye is concerned, you have to consider certain hygiene issues only.
Read on to learn about some popular home remedies to treat eye stye.
  1. Applying a hot compress for at least ten minutes can be very helpful. You should repeat this process at least three-four times on a daily basis. It will help you to reduce the pain to a great degree. Within a few days, eye stye will be resolved. Rupture of the eye stye happens a lot earlier due to repeated “hot compress”, thereby giving you quick relief.
  2. Some people prefer to use warm tea bags to deal with eye stye problems. Dip a tea bag in a cup of warm water and place it on top of the stye. Leave the warm tea bag on top of the stye for a few minutes. You will notice that the size of stye begins to reduce drastically when you repeat this procedure. Tea bag has tannic acid inside it. It is due to this acid that eye stye shrinks in size. The size of an eye stye may reduce to half of even more than that.
  3. You can also use clove spices to deal with eye styes problem. Rub some clove spice in water at first. Now, apply them on top of the eye stye. It can give you an immediate pain relief.
  4. Some people prefer to use herbal remedies to deal with an eye stye problem. For example, you can place the pulpy side of a slit aloe leaf on top of the eye stye. Aloe leaf’s paste is known to have superb healing properties.
  5. Take a cup of clean water and add one tablespoon of coriander seeds to it. Boil this mixture. This mixture is a superb eyewash solution. Rinse your eyes at least three-four times a day with this homemade eyewash solution.
  6. Alum aid is a very famous home remedy for treating eye stye. You just need to dissolve two-three pieces of alum in a cup of water and use this mixture as eyewash. Rinse your eyes with the mixture few times a day to see quick results.
  7. Acacia leaves are also known to cause a healing action. You can prepare a concentrated extract of these leaves. Boil some leaves with a little water. This extract can be used as a compress for the eyelids affected by eye stye.
Symptoms of eye stye can be a bit painful. However, there is no need to worry too much about it. Within a few days, this condition is healed automatically when an eye stye is finally ruptured. However, it is important not to ignore eye stye conditions. You may try out some home remedies in the beginning. If needed, you should also consult a doctor for expert consultation and treatment.
Some stye cases have been reported where medical and surgical procedures became a necessity. In most cases, stye is not going to cause any sort of damage to your eyes. The need of surgical procedures or medical treatments is a very uncommon occurrence. Intraocular damages due to eye stye are highly uncommon.

Special Event Checklist

Special Event Checklist

Beautiful LookFor some people, there are plenty of special events that happen throughout the year such as weddings, first dates, birthday parties and vacations. Some of these special events are planned months in advance, while others are unexpected and last minute. As for the latter, these events can cause lots of stress – even in regards to the littlest of details. So in order to help with these stressful situations, here is a list of things that’ll ease the anxiety of getting ready for special events.

Pamper your Eyes

The area around your eyes can be revealing at any age since it shows how little sleep you’ve had, and how much alcohol you’ve binged on the night before. Even if your eyes are seemingly healthy, it’s okay to give them a little pick-me-up before a special event. To begin pampering your eyes, brew some green teabags and allow them to cool before placing the bags over your closed eyes for 10 minutes; additionally, make sure to you lay on your back. Cucumbers are also a great way to perk up the skin around your eyes.
While you’re taking care of the eye area, don’t forget to touch up your eyebrows if they’re looking a bit rough. Going to a salon a few days before your special event and getting eyebrows professionally shaped will help keep them clean and tidy for the big day. Don’t wax them the same day as the special event since your skin could be irritated and red for several hours afterward.

Hair Care

Your hair is another one of those things that can cause anxiety because there are about a million different styles you could do with it such as braids, soft waves, headbands, pony tails…..the list goes on!
Other than how you plan to style your hair, the health of your strands is of top importance. To ensure that your hair is manageable, remember to get regular trims to remove split ends. The night before your event, use a hair mask of any kind to allow the locks to absorb moisture and tame fly-aways. Coconut oil is great for this; apply it to both your scalp and hair for an all-over treatment. To pump up your hair a little, use volumizing shampoo and conditioner because this gives your hair more bounce while making it appear fuller.

Important Nail Care

If you’re not able to get a manicure or pedicure, it’s up to you to make sure your nails are clean, filed and painted. Your hands make a big impression, so keeping them clean and moisturized is also important.
Trim your nails and file them so that they’re evenly shaped. Push your cuticles up or trim them with a cuticle trimmer. And don’t forget to wash and dry your hands well. Paint them a nude or pale pink color for a classic style, or give yourself a French manicure. Apply a top coat and follow up by massaging oil or hydrating cream on your hands – focusing on your cuticle area.

Whiten Teeth

Special events are often flooded with cameras and picture-happy friends/family, so you’ll want to look your best in the pictures. Having a bright, white smile can boost your confidence and will always make a good impression. Use teeth whitening strips before your event so that you can be confident.

Get Plenty of Rest

It’s never a good idea to skimp on sleep, especially if you’re going to an event the next day! Sleep is important and can make or break your skin’s complexion, your mood and overall confidence. Getting enough sleep will allow your body to rejuvenate cells, and reduce puffiness, redness, pimples, and dark circles around your eyes. Your concentration will be better, you’ll have more energy, and you won’t feel sluggish halfway through the day when you’re getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Unfortunately, getting enough shuteye is easier said than done in some cases. So if you’re too excited to sleep or just out of time, splash cold water on your face in the morning to tighten pores, and give yourself a face massage using ice cubes; just avoid putting the ice directly on the eye area since this can cause irritation or blood vessels to burst, which leads to skin discoloration around your eyes. It also helps to do some light exercises like jumping jacks, pushups, or yoga when you roll out of bed.
Caffeine is also a troublemaker when it comes to sleep, which is why you’d do well to avoid drinking sodas, coffee, or tea before bedtime.

Drink Water

Water is underrated and just as important as sleep since it keeps your skin plump, and helps to clean up your complexion. Unfortunately, drinking water can become monotonous, but by adding a splash of cranberry or pomegranate juice, the water’s flavor and antioxidant powers can be boosted, thus giving your skin another pick-me-up. White or green teas are also refreshing drinks to try when you’re out and about.
While we’re discussing what you should be drinking, let’s talk about what not to gulp down. Alcohol is packed with unnecessary calories and causes a drying effect on your skin, making it an all-around bad idea. And as we mentioned before, avoid drinks that are packed with caffeine too.

Don’t Overdose on Carbs

While there are healthy carbohydrates, there are also unhealthy carbs to avoid altogether such as bread and pasta. These carbs can cause you to bloat, which is an instant confidence deflator!
So instead of eating whole grain or white bread toast for breakfast, try brown rice bread instead with a cup of fruit and egg whites. And for dinner, prepare brown rice noodles for your pasta rather than the whole grain variety, paired with a lean protein like salmon, turkey or chicken. It’s always a great idea to eat raw fruits and vegetables with every meal to increase energy and aid digestion. Also, eating less sugar and salt helps you feel your best. Knowing that small changes like this really impact how your body feels, it’s important to start the changes sooner, rather than later.

Facial at Home/Salon

About a week before the event, either go to a salon for a facial or give yourself one at home. Facials encourage blood circulation, which gives your complexion a healthy glow. If you’ve never had a facial before, it’s important to give yourself a few days to allow your skin to calm down following the treatment. If you’re doing the facial at home, use products that you’ve tried before or those designed for sensitive skin, and try the products a month or so before the event.

Exfoliate your Face and Body

Exfoliating the skin on your face and body encourages the regeneration of new skin cells, while getting dead skin off of the surface to reveal fresh-looking skin underneath. Some people like to exfoliate daily or every other day depending on personal preference.

Use a Hydrating Daily Moisturizer

Moisturizers are important because they hydrate your skin to keep it supple, and help retain the skin’s elasticity as well. Moisturizers free of harmful ingredients such as parabens and alcohol are best, so read the labels before using a product.

Tips on how to prepare for Special Events

It can be overwhelming when looking at a list like this and trying to find time to make all of the appointments, so here are a few ways to take the stress level down a notch. As soon as you get word of a special event, mark it on your calendar. Refer back to the list and mark your calendar for the expected time of waxing, facials, manicures and pedicures. This way, you’re not rushing around a week before the event trying to make time to get all of the above done.

Beauty Products to Store in Your Fridge

Beauty Products to Store in Your Fridge

Beauty productsIf your bathroom storage is getting cluttered from all of your lotions and other beauty creams, you can always begin storing cosmetics in your refrigerator. You may even be able to make some of your products last longer this way than if you were just to store them in a medicine cabinet.
Additionally, your pores can benefit from having all of your eye serums, creams, toners, and moisturizers in the fridge because cold products help to minimize pore size. The summer months are especially a great time to store your beauty items in the cold comfort of your fridge because not all of us have air conditioners.
Lotions and creams aren’t the only products you can store in the fridge because some makeup items can be kept here too. Lipgloss, toners, foundations, cream eyeshadows, and nail polishes can all be stored in your fridge. Having a designated beauty area in your fridge for your favorite beauty products can actually enhance product performance and lifespan, while also improving your health. That said, here are some products to store in your fridge as well as some more reasons why you should consider doing this.

Nail Polish

You’ll be surprised to know that nail polishes that have been tucked away between the broccoli and milk have a longer lifespan than those on a bedroom or bathroom shelf. Of course, it may seem a little odd storing your nail polishes in the fridge, and could raise some questions like ‘what if it gets sealed shut?’ Well, you can smear a small amount of petroleum jelly or Vaseline on the neck of the bottle, as well as on the thread inside the cap, before putting the cap back on to relieve this issue. If you collect nail polishes, you may need to find a mini fridge to keep in your bedroom because you’ll still need to eat!

Skin Care

If you’re someone looking for a boost in the morning, storing your skin creams in the fridge is a good idea. There’s nothing more soothing than applying chilled eye serums and creams on your clean skin. Plus it energizes you in the morning, helps brighten your skin, tightens pores, and allows skin care products to be absorbed into the skin more effectively. In warm weather, keeping your daily moisturizer in the fridge will cool you down, and the cool sensation can make your skin seem glowy, which is always a good thing!
Don’t omit sunscreens from the selection of products you store in the fridge because these are skin care items too. If you have sunburn, putting your aloe vera gel in the fridge will help to relieve the pain. Hand creams that are stored in the fridge can soothe dry and cracked skin instantly, and if you also keep your foot creams in the fridge, you’ll get the same relief.

Perfumes and Body Sprays

Perfumes and body sprays are truly refreshing when you store them in the fridge, but most importantly, they will last longer in the cold refrigerator. When you spray your body with perfumes and body sprays, it is best to close the refrigerator door because you don’t want to make your food taste like perfume! Even if you don’t like keeping perfumes in the fridge year-round, storing them in your fridge during the summer is a good idea because they can evaporate more during hot seasons.

Makeup to Keep in the Fridge

Eyeliners, medicated lip balms, liquid foundations, cream eyeshadows, cream blush, and loose powders are all products that can be kept in the fridge. Also, pencil eyeliners can be tough to sharpen when they’re overheated because they are mushy. So putting them in the fridge will keep the liner from getting mushy or muddy, and will give you more precise lines when applying. For those prone to cracked and chapped lips, it’s also worth mentioning that medicated lip balms are great to store in the fridge because of the cooling sensation.

How to Store Cosmetics in Refrigerators

When you’re storing cosmetics of any kind in the fridge, you might want to consider putting them into Ziploc Bags or into a container so they don’t get mixed in with other items in the fridge. Plus, this way you can take them out all at once to use them, and return them to the fridge all at the same time as well. This will help remind you to apply everything you need without forgetting a step in your routine because the products are readily available. If you live with other women, you can easily put your name on the container so that you know whose container is whose, and also to avoid anyone grabbing your products by mistake.
Even if you don’t store makeup and skin care items in the fridge, you might want to store them in Ziploc Bags instead of cosmetic bags. You’ll be able to see exactly what you’re reaching for, and when the baggie gets too dirty or worn out, you can easily replace it. They’re also great for traveling because the screw caps and pump bottles always seem to make a mess, so it’s better to dirty a disposable bag than it is to wipe and sanitize a cosmetic case.
When it comes to storing makeup, it really comes down to personal preference. But above all, keep your cosmetics, hair care, skin care, and moisturizers away from humidity, moisture, heat, and sudden changes in temperature. Find a cool, dry place for all of your beauty items to live, and if you can, avoid storing your makeup in the bathroom because there’s a lot of moisture and changes in humidity.

Storing Essential Oils in the Fridge

Aromatherapy essenial oils are a great investment, and they should be stored properly to get the most potential out of them. The way you look after your essential oils will also determine their shelf life, which is important because you wouldn’t want to spend money on these products without getting maximum usage out of the oils.
Essential oils should come in dark, colored glass to filter the sun’s ultra-violet light. The classic bottle color for any type of liquid needing protection from the sun was a dark red or yellow color, but there is more variety these days with dark shades of green, purple and blue. With that being said, it still isn’t safe for you to store your oils in direct sunlight because this causes the therapeutic abilities to evaporate, and the oil to deteriorate due to a fluctuation in temperature.
The best place to store oils is in a cool and dark place, which once again leads us to the trusty refrigerator. If your fridge is too cold, some oils will solidify like Rose oil; but when set out at room temperature or held in your hand for a few seconds, they will return back to normal. If storing them in your fridge isn’t an option, store them in a box altogether with a lid, and keep the caps on tight because they have a tendency to evaporate quickly.

This is a procedure that will definitely help exfoliate dead and old skin cells that only make your legs look ugly and unappealing. But you have to take note that while you do this procedure, you have to do it gently as brushing or scrubbing hardly can cause further problems such as abrasions and bruises.

Tip No. 4: Shave that Leg Hair Goodbye

Ingrown hairs can make the look of your legs unappealing. The best way to deal with these hairs is to shave them away. Do this procedure gently and carefully to get rid of cuts and bruises surrounding your legs. Now, if you are someone who is not an expert particularly in using shaving devices, there are other hair removing alternatives that you can use. Waxing your legs is an effective yet very painful procedure of removing hair from your legs; you may also want to use depilatory creams. Truth Behind YouTube Beauty Gurus

Truth Behind YouTube Beauty Gurus

Woman with CameraYouTube beauty gurus are popping up all around the world offering advice for women of all ages in regards to beauty, fashion, health, and even what cars to buy. Of course, not all of them will become as successful as Michelle Phan, who has launched a new company that delivers deluxe-sized beauty samples to your door for only $10 a month.
But no matter whether it’s Phan or a relative unknown, becoming a YouTube beauty guru isn’t hard – all you need is a camera, computer, and of course beauty products. And it’s an easy way to make money for those who are successful enough to become a partner with YouTube and host a variety of advertisements on their profile. But with so many gurus on YouTube and the money involved, it’s hard to distinguish who is giving honest opinions, and who is being paid to tell you to buy a product.
That said, here are some reasons to watch and subscribe to beauty gurus, in addition to advice on finding trustworthy reviews, product suggestions and valuable beauty information.

Beauty Gurus: How to Find Them

Hauls and Favorite Videos

Haul videos have become a part of every beauty channel on YouTube, blogs and websites alike. When you watch a haul video, you’ll see the video maker showing you everything she’s bought on her latest shopping spree, and maybe she’ll go in-depth about where she went shopping and why the items were purchased. The problem with haul videos is that you’re not getting valuable information, and the gurus may have been asked to record them to promote stores. Essentially, haul videos are purely for entertainment.
Favorite videos are great product recommendation bits, and usually pop up around the beginning of each month. The products named in a favorites video can be anything from an eyeshadow to a flavor of tea. But watch out because some opinions are biased since items may have been given to the gurus for free from a company hoping to reach a large audience. In order to find out if the hauler has been compensated for mentioning a certain brand, product or store, read the video description to see if there is a disclaimer. This will help you to make smart decisions, and be more cautious when it comes to making impulse purchases based on something that someone raved about on YouTube!

Frivolous Spending

Watching these girls go on shopping sprees and boast about the latest products can lead you to spending more money on items you don’t necessarily need. Since these women make a living off of YouTube videos, it’s their job to always have the most recent products in order to make a review video or to demonstrate the product. Seeing someone so excited about a new product inevitably makes you want the same item, leading you to frivolous spending on something you probably don’t have a true use for.

Lacking Formal Training

Only a handful of the beauty gurus on YouTube have actually finished a cosmetology course; JuicyStar07 is one example. She began her YouTube career in high school and has been featured in magazines and even small movie roles. Still, she continues to make sponsored videos without any formal training in the beauty industry. Without going to a beauty school, many of the gurus offer candid advice on what has worked for them in order to help others in similar situations. But even without any formal training, they still know plenty of techniques, tips, and information regarding hair care, skincare, fashion and makeup application.

Learn New Techniques

If you’re looking for a new way to style your hair, or are trying to find an easier way to get a flawless face, then YouTube is the place to look. With so many different beauty advisors who are offering free advice, you’re bound to find what you are looking for no matter if you’ve been wondering how to create the latest hair bow trend, or how to create a sultry smoky eye look. Keep searching to find other videos that spark your imagination and creativity, and learn different techniques along the way! YouTube beauty gurus will also demonstrate the latest products to help you get proper use out of items such as the beauty blender or similar products.

Entertainment

When there is nothing else to do on a lazy day, you can turn to your trusty beauty gurus as a form of entertainment! Most of them have unique personalities that shine through in their videos like BeautySavvy; she uses humor as a tool to guide through her talks about topics that are hard or embarrassing to discuss. Other forms of entertainment that branch off from YouTube videos are Twitter and Facebook as many gurus are opening their arms to social networking in order to answer questions you may have regarding a video.

Contests and Giveaways

When you subscribe to a guru, you have a shot to win in their frequent giveaways and contests. These contests usually offer both sponsored products, as well as items the guru herself has purchased specifically for giving away to a lucky winner. To know if the giveaway is sponsored, look in the information bar YouTube offers below the video. This will tell you if she purchased the said items herself, or if someone is sponsoring the giveaway.
When it comes to beauty gurus, it’s just like finding a friend. Sometimes you will like their personality and continue to watch them, and other gurus will turn you off with their arrogant attitude and lavish lifestyle. You’ll also want to learn what their skin type is so you can get recommendations that could possibly work, and keep this concept in mind when it comes to your hair too. After all, you wouldn’t want to watch hair tutorials for long hair if you have short hair. So when you’re trying to find your guru fit, keep in mind what your personal style is, and don’t forget to subscribe to them to show your support!

Apple cider vinegar is a classic repairing hair rinse because it will close the hair cuticle, and balance your hair’s pH levels.

  • Rinse the mixture from your hair with water, being sure to avoid contact with your eyes to keep them from becoming irritated.
You can use this once a week to achieve good results.

If you were paying attention 30 years ago, you would have noticed the food-to-skincare treatment trend that brought yogurt from the spoon to your skin. Well, this is a solid facial treatment that is easily done at home, and will give you some deep cleaning and exfoliating action.
Here is how to boost your skin’s appearance by using food found in your local grocery store:
  • Combine in a bowl 1 Tbsp yogurt, 1 Tbsp flour, 1 tsp cucumber juice, 1 tsp honey, 1 tsp baking soda and 1 egg.
  • When you are done mixing the ingredients, apply this mask to your face.
  • Keep this mask on for 15 minutes, rinse with warm water, and continue your normal skincare routine afterward with a toner and moisturizer.
If you’re low on ingredients, you can use an egg for a face mask:
  • Begin by cracking the egg and separating the egg white from the yolk.
  • Then whisk the egg white until it is frothy with tiny bubbles.
  • Then on a clean face, apply the egg white and wait 10 minutes, or until your face feels tight.
  • Rinse the egg white mask off of your face and pat to dry with a towel.
  • Take the yolk and apply to your face; the yolk acts as a natural moisturizer.
  • Again you will wait 10 minutes, or until your face feels tight, and then rinse it off. Continue with your normal face routine with toner, anti-aging serum and moisturizer.

Brows

Tweezing can be painful, and waxing can cause your eyelid to sag as you age; so in order to get perfectly tweezed brows, you may want to try something that was originally made for canker sores. Gels used for the relief of canker sores will numb your eyebrows so that it is painless for tweezing. You should follow the estimated time of 5 to 10 minutes after applying the gel to your brow before plucking your eyebrows. It is important to keep the gel out of your eyes as it can cause irritation, so be cautious when applying canker sore gels.

Teeth

It’s no secret by now that baking soda can brighten and enhance your smile if used in combination with normal everyday toothpaste. There are expensive products on the market these days that give you instantly whiter smiles in just hours, but they come at a hefty price.
To get a brighter smile without paying a lot of money or using up a lot of time, use baking soda, salt, and peroxide with your toothpaste 2 or 3 times each week.
Here is how to put the mixture together:
  • add equal amounts of toothpaste and baking soda, then a pinch of salt; use enough peroxide to create the toothpaste’s original consistency.
This is great for women and men who drink wine or coffee regularly. But it’s not to be used on dentures or veneers because they are made of non-porous polished porcelain, which can be dulled by baking soda.

Puffy Eyes

Women and men alike will notice puffy eye areas due to weakening tissues and muscles as they age.
To erase puffy eyes from your face, use cucumbers; place one slice of cucumber on each closed eye, and lye down for 5 minutes or longer.
Using cucumbers isn’t the only way to de-puff your eyes; getting enough sleep and drinking plenty of water also helps!
Hemorrhoid cream sounds like the last think you’d want to put onto your face, but it is actually great for reducing crow’s feet and other wrinkles on your face; it’s also used to moisturize your skin. Preparation H and other hemorrhoid creams are significantly less expensive than the anti-aging creams, serums, and lotions on the market with similar if not better results. Preparation H is also great for helping reduce the appearance of under-eye dark circles!
Sometimes older, old fashioned way is better, and in most cases, you’ll save time and money by not following all of the latest trends that come along… and do not forget to check our beauty tips, to enjoy more beauty tips and secrets for hair, skin but also how to create wonderful makeup and lose some weight!

How to Make Safe Beauty Purchases Online

How to Make Safe Beauty Purchases Online

Woman after shoppingOnline shopping has been growing in popularity ever since it became possible to purchase things over the internet. Of course, at first, many people were skeptical and didn’t trust the technology at all! But as consumers have become more comfortable with the idea of online shopping, the volume of internet sales have skyrocketed. Unfortunately, where there’s money to be made, there are scam artists waiting in the wings as.
And while this isn’t as big of a problem as some people might fear, there are a few things you still need to know and be aware of before making purchases over the internet. With this being said, let’s look at some of the different aspects you should keep in mind as far as online shopping safety goes.

Website Security

The idea of having your identity stolen or money taken from you can be scary to think about, so it’s important to always use websites with a good reputation. The brand name websites are usually good in regards to account security because of all the money they can dump into tech support. Of course, many smaller websites are also adopting advanced methods to protect consumer credit card information, thus making it safe for consumers to order items from the large majority of beauty websites.

How to Identify Secure Websites

To ensure that you are using a secure website, use these tips to help guide you. First, depending on your chosen internet browser, it may display an icon to make you aware of secure websites and non-secure websites. Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers both have an icon displayed that says “locked” to alert you to when you’re on a secure website or server. Another small detail worth paying attention to is the website URL. Typically the website address starts with http://; however, secure websites start with https://. The ‘s’ lets you know that it is a secure server. If you’re not seeing these secure signs, be cautious when buying from these sites.

Payment Methods

The most common way to make online purchases is by using a credit card – despite the constant worry about credit card fraud. However, you can ease these fears by realizing that using a credit card to make online purchases is safe due to advanced encryption technologies made available throughout the years. Another payment option for online shoppers is the eWallet, which is a category that includes sites like PayPal and Moneybookers. With an eWallet, you transfer money from your bank account or credit card onto a website, then you use the website account to make purchases.
You also have the option of getting a one-time use or substitute credit card number for online shopping. Many of these expire quickly, and are good for only one purchase; the latter is so you won’t be a credit card fraud victim since the card will be automatically deactivated once you make the purchase. To find out if you qualify for a one-time use or substitute card number, call your credit card provider.

Transaction Records

Just like a bank, you’ll want to keep a log of all of your internet purchases and transactions for your credit card. Keeping a log is wise because it makes your purchases visible, and allows you to keep an eye on shipping dates easily without having to log onto a computer, or try and sift through your internet history or emails. It’s fairly easy to keep a log; what you need to do is print off the summary page each time you make a purchase online to put into a file, or download the page onto your computer as well.

Shop Smart

It isn’t hard to lose track of your budget when you’re shopping online, but it’s still important to practice good shopping habits! Just as with shopping in a mall or another physical store, you’ll want to look around for the best deals before settling on a purchase. Looking around and comparing prices is easier online since it only takes seconds to go from web-store to web-store; with physical shops, you have to walk or drive to other stores, which can be tough if you’re in a time crunch. It’s also convenient to shop online because they are open at all hours of the day or night, and even open on holidays. So it doesn’t matter if you make it to the store before they close, or have to wait for them to open in the morning.
Auction websites like eBay have grown in popularity, and they are fine for purchasing books or house ware items. However, it isn’t a good idea to purchase beauty products off of auction websites because of the potential imitation products being sold, and most of these sellers don’t offer return or exchange policies. In short, don’t let cheaper prices on auction websites trick you into taking a risk on potentially used and/or fake products.

What to Buy and what not to Buy

Ordering makeup online is okay assuming you’re not ordering a foundation or concealer that you’ve never used before. These items are very important, and should match your skin perfectly so you do not look weird in public! Only buy foundation and concealer off of the internet if you know your number and have used it before.
Eye shadows are easy to buy since they don’t need to match skin tone, as well as blush, bronzer, lipsticks, nail polish, shampoos, conditioners, other hair products and skin products. Tinted moisturizers are sometimes tricky, so the suggested method of purchasing items like this is to only purchase them in a store – unless of course you are familiar with the product already!
Looking at things from a broad perspective, online purchases can be intimidating at first, but once you become an experienced online shopper, you’ll instantly feel empowered. Even if you don’t feel empowered, perhaps you’ll love saving gas money and time with online shopping!

15 Unique Uses for Baby Oil

15 Unique Uses for Baby Oil

Baby OilAs most people know, baby oil is most commonly used on babies; however, the uses do not stop there. In fact, baby oil uses include everything from untangling jewelry to avoiding stretch marks.
Luckily, baby oil is an inexpensive product, and manufacturers are now making it in a variety of scents. You can find baby oil in a few different places including grocery stores, which makes it convenient to purchase and even easier to find. Now on to the unique uses for this product!

Baby Oils Uses

  1. Ease Pain from Bandages
If the thought of yanking a bandage off of your skin makes you cringe, then try using baby oil to soften the sting. What you need to do is rub your bandage with baby oil around the edges and on top of the areas that have adhesive. This is great for anyone with sensitive skin, or for small children who react poorly to pain.
  2. Scented Bath Oil
Create your own warm, scented oil bath. All you need is baby oil, your favorite perfume and a tub of warm water. Add a couple drops of your favorite perfume to one-fourth cup of baby oil in a small container. Shake the mixture very well, and then add it to your bath water. After you’ve soaked for a while, your skin will be soft and scented.
  3. Shine Your Golf Clubs
This is a tip for the man of the house. Instead of spending money on cleaning kits for your golf clubs, use baby oil to buff them up after your golf rounds. Keep a bottle of baby oil and a towel in your golf bag for easy access.
  4. Remove Rings with Ease
If you have problems getting jewelry off of your fingers when they swell up in hot weather, then try using baby oil to help slide them off. Just apply baby oil to the areas around your ring, and then rotate the ring to help spread the oil underneath. It will be easy to remove the ring once you have the area lubricated.
  5. Remove Dings on Your Dashboard
Every car is prone to a few scratches on the dash, but usually the scratches stay there until they become part of the car “décor”. Well, you don’t have to grow accustom to those dings in your speedometer anymore; just use a little baby oil to buff the scratches away.
  6. Use as Paint Remover (on skin)
If you’ve ever felt like being creative with latex paint, then you’ve probably gotten it on your skin. Grab something like a cotton ball, clean towel, paper towel, napkin, or something similar to absorb the baby oil. Then rub in circles on the area of skin that has paint, but be sure not to add too much pressure; think of the process as a massage. Once you have made some progress with the baby oil, scrub the rest off with soap and water.
  7. Quiet Squeaky Door Hinges
Does your door squeak every time you open it? If it does, you could go spend a pretty penny on a can of oil that has only one use, or you could buy baby oil. Baby oil, as we’ve already discovered, has plenty of uses including fixing your squeaky door hinges! All you do is put a bit of baby oil in a spray bottle, aim and shoot.
  8. Untangle Jewelry
If you have a problem with your small necklace chains getting tangled up in knots, then baby oil will be of great assistance when dealing with this problem. For tangled-up jewelry, dab a little baby oil on the chains, and use a straight pen to slowly work the knots out.
  9. Clear Waxy Buildup
When wax builds up in your ears, it can be kind of hard to hear. So if you want a temporary fix for this hearing problem, use baby oil to relieve the symptoms. Warm a few drops of baby oil up, and then lay on your side with your ear facing up. Drop the warm baby oil down into your ear; then wait for a few minutes for the wax to dissolve. The last step is to drain the oil out of your ear onto a towel or into a sink; get the remaining wax out of your ear with warm water and a q-tip or cotton swab.
  10. Insulation
If you live somewhere with cold weather, use baby oil as an extra layer of insulation for your body, and on skin that will be exposed to the weather like your hands, ears or neck. Just rub the oil on your skin, and it will help keep you a little warmer during the winter. It’s worth mentioning that putting oil on your face isn’t good for everyone since it can cause sensitive skin to react poorly.
  11. Heal Rough Skin
Your heels and elbows are easily cracked and dry, which doesn’t look good on anyone. So what you need to do is massage baby oil onto your clean elbows daily. The best time to clean up rough skin on your heels is at night before bed; then put socks on before sleepng.
  12. Make Body Wash Last
When you’re running low on body wash, you can make it last a little longer by adding some baby oil to the bottle. Continue to use the shower gel on a sponge or shower puff to rub onto the skin. You’ll have baby soft skin with little effort at all, and you’ll also save a trip to the store!
  13. Shaving Lubricant
Baby oil is great when it comes to shaving because it’s highly moisturizing. When you’re using baby oil to shave your legs or underarms, always be careful if you are doing so in the shower. Baby oil creates a hazardous environment when mixed with water and can cause you to fall. Moving back to the bright side, since baby oil is oily, you’re able to use it without being in the shower, which saves on the water bill.
  14. Avoid Stretch Marks
Women are always concerned about getting stretch marks on their bellies during pregnancy. A simple and inexpensive way of avoiding stretch marks on arms, bellies, or thighs is to saturate a cotton ball or pad with baby oil daily, and dab it all over your body. The sooner you begin this routine, the less likely you are to get stretch marks.
  15. Furniture Polish
Wooden furniture can become dull over time, but all you need is a cotton ball and some baby oil to perk it back up. Use a cloth or towel to wipe the leftover oil off of the wood when you are finished.
Who knew that a little bottle of baby oil had so many uses? It’s almost as useful as duct tape when it comes to fixing things!

How to Choose Perfect Lip Color for Light, Medium & Dark Skin Tone

How to Choose Perfect Lip Color for Light, Medium & Dark Skin Tone

Palette of LipsticksIf you’re easily confused when trying to choose a lip color that suits your skin tone, don’t feel alone because this is a common concern for many people. After all, there are thousands of brands, colors, formulas, and textures to choose from, so it’s easy to become overwhelmed and frustrated. In this article, you will find the best way to choose a lip color that flatters your skin tone and enhances natural beauty.
But before reading about what colors look best for your specific skin tone, it’s necessary to learn how to determine your tone. And there are two general categories of skin tone colors known as cool skin tones and warm skin tones. This being said, here are three steps that will help you determine what type you have.
  • Step 1
If you have long sleeves on, you’ll need to roll them up to expose your wrists. Pay close attention to the color of your veins because this will help to determine what skin tone you have. If your veins look purple-blue or blue-green, you most likely have a cool skin tone; veins that appear green usually fall under the category of warm skin tone.
  • Step 2
Another simple way of figuring out if you have a cool skin tone or a warm skin tone is to stand in front of a mirror while holding a white t-shirt, rag, towel, or piece of cloth up to your face. Also, be sure that your skin is clean with no makeup, and your hair is pulled back out of your face. If your skin appears to have a blue hue to it, then your skin tone is cool; if your skin is yellowish, then you have a warm skin tone.
  • Step 3
One last thing you can do to determine which skin tone family you belong in is to once again stand in front of a mirror. However, this time you should hold up a bright pink towel, shirt or cloth; repeat with a bright orange cloth or t-shirt, and decide which color makes your skin glow more. If your skin glows more with the orange cloth, then you fall under the warm skin tone category. And if your skin glows more with the bright pink cloth, you have cool-toned skin.
Once you have determined your skin tone family, you can read further to learn what the best lip color for your specific skin color is.

Light Skin Color

Colors that are plum red like berry or wine colors with blue undertones are great for fair skin tones, as well as nudes, corals and apricot shades. Also, use pinks that are light with shimmer that have blue undertones. Pink lip colors that include small amounts of gold shimmer will enhance fair skin greatly. Keep in mind though that while a lot of pink colors look great on fair skin, bright pink lips will overpower fair skin and look unappealing. Browns and oranges will also look poor on fair skin tones and should be avoided.

Medium Skin Color (Beige, Sand)

Colors that will brighten medium skin tones are deep reds, and blue-reds that have yellow undertones. To warm up medium-toned skin, use warm reds and browns; be sure not to use pale browns since it causes skin to look washed-out or ashy. Other colors that will look flattering on medium skin tones are caramel shades, brown with pink or yellow undertones, and smooth coffee browns. If you want to use pink, then choose a pink that is rich and deep, or pinks that have brown undertones like mauve or rose color for the most flattering look. Try experimenting with sheers, creams, and mattes with the aforementioned shades as all of these formulas work well with medium skin tones.

Brown to Black Skin Color

Rich and deep red colors like chocolate, plum, and reds look nice on darker skin tones. Nearly every shade of brown, including light browns to rich and dark browns (coffee shades) look stunning on dark to black skin tones. Sheer or glossy pinks that have slight beige hues greatly enhance darker skin. Other colors that flatter are deep roses, berry colors and deep plums. Try using a walnut or caramel during the day, and a plum purple or wine color for the evening. Always avoid oranges in addition to pink reds so as not to look unappealing.

Helpful Tips

  • If you ever apply lip color outside of your lips don’t use your finger to remove the mistake. Instead, use a cotton swab or q-tip with your foundation, or a makeup remover to take care of the problem.
  • If you want fuller-looking lips, you can accomplish this by using a lighter shade of lip color on the center of both your upper and lower lips.
  • Try using a lip liner that is the same color as the lipstick you’re using to outline the outer white parts of your skin for fuller lips.
  • An easy way of finding your perfect lip color is to take a look at your natural lip color, and then choose a lipstick, sheer, gloss, or matte color that is one or two shades darker than your natural lip color.
  • To test shades, apply lipstick or gloss to one lip. If that color is just a shade or two deeper than your bare lip, then you’ve found your shade.
  • When you’re about to apply strong colors, always use a mirror and a lip brush for precise application because you don’t want to have excess color on the outsides of your lips.
  • For a natural-looking lip color, apply lip liner after you’ve applied your lip color or lip gloss.
  • To make your lipstick last longer, use a lip liner to fill in your lips before applying any lipstick. Think of it as a color base that doubles as a primer.

How to Wear Red on Lips

Red lips aren’t easy to pull off, so most women simply choose to skip that glamorous look and opt for a neutral style of makeup. But the reality is that every woman can wear red on their lips, and the secret is choosing one with the right undertones to suit the skin tone. Pale women with pinkish skin have better luck choosing a cherry, wine or plum red lip color.
Those with medium or olive-colored skin will look best in warm reds that aren’t too pale. Women with dark skin should stick with deep reds on their lips.
Keep in mind that red lips do not work with everyday wear, and you should also take note of the clothes you are wearing.
Choosing the perfect lip color is simple once you understand your personal skin tone, and know what colors look the best with it.
